Rafflesia is the biggest parasitic flowering plant in the world. The giant bright red flower reeking of rotten flesh has fleshy petals with white blister-like spots. Recently, the Rafflesia tuan-mundae has bloomed in Indonesia measuring as big as three feet across (111 centimetres) and Indonesian conservationist say that this is the biggest bloom to have ever been documented.

The enormous flower was spotted in its biggest bloom in the forest of a nature reserve in Marambuang Nagarai Barini village in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
Reportedly, the current Rafflesia flower in Indonesia has broken the record of the 107 centimetre bloom also found in the jungles of West Sumatra several years ago. Local reports claim the flower is the first of a group of five of the flowers expected to bloom. The flower's bloom will only last about one week before it will wither and rot.
Rafflesia gets its name from British colonialist Sir Stamford Raffles, who spotted one in Indonesia in the early 19th century. Also called the ‘corpse flower,’ the carnivorous bloom mimics the stench of decomposed meat to attract insects. The only flower to share the noxious smell is Indonesia's Amorphophallus titanum, a phallus-shaped flower that can reach heights of up to three metres (10 feet).
“For this type of species, the diameter is quite large,” Ade Putra, from the Indonesia conservation board said in a statement. According to Ade, based on scientific records and documentation, the diameter size found last month, is the largest for 31 types of Rafflesia flowers in the world.
